Will You Vaccinate Your Children Under 12?

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

...is this week's Word on the Street!

According to the Ohio Department of Health website the deadline to register for the first giveaway in the most recent set of Vax A Million giveaway. Sunday, November 21st. “Ohioans ages 5-25, or their parents or guardians, can enter once they have received at least one dose of the COVID-19” vaccine. I spoke with several people in the Miami Valley and asked them their thoughts on children under 12 getting the Covid-19 vaccine. I received a variety of responses including a few who did not want to go on record.

I spoke with Nnodum Iheme the owner of Zik’s Family Pharmacy. Nnodum said, “The vaccine that we are giving children is highly effective in stopping them from having the Corona Virus and spreading it to their schoolmates and family. The vaccine has proven to be safe which is the most important thing. This is the best thing that Pfizer has done. Personally, it is a wonderful that we have a vaccine that kids can take. We gave children shots last Saturday. Besides a few sore arms, there were no side effects. Children can take the vaccine at Zik’s Family Pharmacy M-F 9am to 6pm and Saturday 9am-2pm. We are here to cater to your needs.”

Venita Kelley, PHD, is Chief Executive Officer of Kelley Communications and Consulting and the Interim Executive Director for Southwest Ohio Cares Circle Incorporated. Venita lives in Dayton. Venita responded, “I think that it’s important for children under twelve to be vaccinated because of what we see is happening to children who have not been vaccinated. Children are still vulnerable. I think it is particularly important for children of color because of some of the health issues that can be generational. Things like stress, trauma, and the micro aggressions that they live under in society everyday can attack their immune system. Therefore, it’s another step in making sure that they are healthy and that they stay healthy in our community.”
