Jamila Briscoe is the creator of the Dayton Food Diaries, a local food blog, with occasional out of town “field trips.” The blog focuses on varied cuisine from all over the the city. So it should come as no surprise that Briscoe is also the organizer for Dayton Black Restaurant Week.
Dayton Black Restaurant Week stems from Jamila's passion for highlighting Black-owned food-based businesses, including brick and mortar restaurants, food trucks, caterers and chefs. She is serious about displaying the diversity of offerings available throughout the city. Not even a pandemic, could hold her back!
Last year she organized the inaugural event, and it was a hit! Many participants noted they were able to reach new customers. As an added benefit, individuals throughout the Miami Valley were taking advantage of some great deals while being introduced to a variety of new businesses. Briscoe created a win-win for our community, and she's back at it again. The second year of Dayton Black Restaurant Week has already started, but it's no too late to take advantage of the deals! This year Dayton Black Restaurant Week is expanding and will be closing out the week by hosting an in-person Food Fest featuring mobile eateries on October 16th, at Genuine Work (15 McDonough St, Dayton, OH) from 2-6pm.
